Go to www.aim.com and follow the instructions.

Assuming you have the same version I do, there should be a button on the AIM window that says "Setup," and has a little green plus symbol and a red minus. Click on that and you'll get to the screen where you can add a buddy. Just click on the button near the bottom that says... um, "Add Buddy" and type in the screenname you want. Then you can click on the button that says "Return to Buddy List" to go see who's online.

*grins* AIM can be pretty inane. But especially when LJ disappears, it's a life-saver. (Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything.)
