I don't think I will update again until after my exams are over. Not much point, really; it's not as if I would be coherent, interesting or in any way entertaining, unless you're the sort of person who rubbernecks at twenty-car pile-ups on the motorway, so, well, yeah.

A few notes, then:

Firstly, the Discworld Quest is over! I finished reading Eric last night. I have read all thirty-one (is it thirty-one?) books, from The Colour of Magic to Monstrous Regiment, and it has taken me almost exactly three months. I am pleased.

Secondly, [livejournal.com profile] amchau - I thought you would be interested to know that Red Dwarf has canon mpreg. I would usually take this moment to complain about mpreg in general, but I now no longer have a leg to stand on. Sadly (or not), the only clip from the episode I could find features the cast dancing. I was amused by that.

Thirdly, you might remember my mentioning Mani's two goldfish, Jasmine and Aladdin. I have just learned that Jasmine has departed this mortal coil - when they were on the way home, she fell out of the bowl and no-one noticed until two hours later.

Is it wrong that I find that absolutely hilarious?

And yes, that is all. See you all next week.

It's mostly a matter of the setting, really-- in the Star Trek "anything can happen" setting, it makes sense that sex would have unexpected consequences, and male preganacy is a reasonably obvious choice. That's why mpreg can work in Smallville or our Disc/Potter crossover, but is harder to sell in a far more realistic fandom, such as M*A*S*H. Which is why my Klinger mpreg remains unfinished: it's not a very good story.

I would go with that. In Red Dwarf, anything really can happen, so Lister being pregant wasn't quite as odd in context.

Similarly with Trip Tucker. I was just thinking, I have to start watching that show again. I loved Enterprise, and I really don't know why I stopped watching.

Still, I never saw your M*A*S*H mpreg and it did seem like a good plot to me. I mean, everyone, everyone will think Klinger is faking - and it turns out he isn't! Fantastic.

To go off on a tangent (back to Red Dwarf again!) Klinger has completely altered my perceptions. When watching a RD episode which, for some reason, featured Rimmer in a dress, I didn't find it strange. Not at all. The trials and tribulations of having more than one fandom!

You never saw it for a reason, and that's that I never did much more than talk about it, because the contradiction between the reality of the show and the impossiblity of the situation did bug me. One day, maybe, I'll kick that aside a write purely silly M*A*S*H fic, and when I do, the plot will be there and waiting for me.

I don't know about you, but I stopped watching Enterprise because Archer is a prat. Cute fic, by the way-- I don't feel confident saying more than that, because Stargate is not my fandom by any stretch of the imagination. It's one of those ones I'm going to find out about one day, but not this week.

And having more than one fandom is a good thing. :) I was rambling in my lj only the other day about how I wished more people would bring the reality of war as shown by shows like M*A*S*H into their writing of wartime Harry Potter stories.
