I hate LJ. I really, really do. I just typed the longest fuck-off entry of all time - twice.

It ate it both times!

Am now using Semagic. If it eats this I'm going to kill someone. If I were ever going to get sniffy about paid accounts, now would be the time. Aaaargh. Not only are the colours screwed, a whole load of other things are going wrong as well.

Anyway, the entry dealt in part with the Hug Your WIP day. What follows is an extract from the first M*A*S*H fic I ever wrote, which is still a WIP because I don't know what to do with it.

It was hot.

No, it wasn’t just hot. It was humid, heavy, and swelteringly, blisteringly hot. It was so hot there were people sleeping in the compound and in the river. The gas-passers and nurses complained that if they hydrated a patient intravenously, he was healthier than the medical personnel by the end of the operation.
Some of the nurses suffered from prickly heat. As one, the male surgeons came to independent decisions to leave them well alone. Even Frank and Margaret seemed to have been avoiding each other lately, not that anyone was really paying attention. Everyone in the place was focused on a limited number of things - namely, the amount of wounded, the weather forecast, and where the next glass of iced water was coming from.
Hawkeye shivered.

There was a cool breeze at night, and the sun wasn’t shining down in your face like a punishment from God, but the air temperature didn’t drop any. Occasionally it rained, and they all looked forward to those occasions. But they came too rarely, and in the meantime they sweated and sweltered and snapped at each other, while all the time the wounded needed them just as much as ever. Colonel Blake was afraid some of his men were close to the brink, but he knew that despite their occasional forays into full-blown insanity, they got the job done. This M*A*S*H unit still had the highest efficiency in Korea, and it looked like it would stay that way.

Hawkeye shivered. He held out one hand and gently pushed the Martini glass off the table. It fell off the edge, landing on the ground unharmed and rolling off somewhere into a corner. Hawkeye closed his eyes and drowsed; he couldn’t sleep. It had been a while.

End.

That's really pretty. Honestly, I have no suggestions; that could go anywhere. But I like it.

Hug your WIP day. I'm going to hug my WIP. Really, I am. HAHAHAHAHA sure I am. Yeah. All 3 of them. Maybe tomorrow... like I've been saying since about March. Haha.

Oh, this is lovely. When did you write it? I know that my first M*A*S*H attempts were incredibly embarrassing and should never see the light of day, so I'm very impressed.

I'm so glad other people are doing this. I need my fic fix :).

When did I write it?
Um... back when they first started showing M*A*S*H on Paramount, so August of last year. Any suggestions about what the hell I should do with it?

And I refuse to believe any of your writing was incredibly embarrassing...
