No one told me Newt Gingrich was running for president. Newt Gingrich, running for president, and no one told me? You are all FIRED. Except not, because he's doing it from newt.org and I need you all to assure me that that is quite as funny as I think it is. Heee, newt dot org. Rather than a gently informative site about a friendly, innocuous amphibian, we get NEWT DOT ORG. And I thought it was a parody site at first.
In fact, I'm still not convinced it isn't. For example, under "What's New", it has "Gingrich backs English push as official language[1] and on the same page, it has the handy tab, "En Espanol." Heee.
And then there are the FAQs. I am under the impression that this does indeed mean "Frequently Asked Questions." I have to admit, the question I've asked most frequently since being apprised of this development is something like "Newt Gingrich is running for president, OMG?" or, more briefly, "Newt Gringrich? Who thinks this is a good idea?", or more briefly still, "Newt Gingrich, wtf?"
But no, the first question on the list is: "How can I get an autographed photo of Newt?"
Followed by, ahaha, yes, "Whatever did happen with Newt's Contract with America?"
Answer: it sort of died in the Senate. Last term, Chris sent me a joyous YouTube video of Gingrich talking about the differences between men and women. Apparently men are "biological driven to go out and hunt giraffes." And again: this man is running for president? Sigh.

narahttbbs about American politics, which was immensely fun, and sort of crystallised my week of liberal-blog-reading. I do think American politics is far more interesting than British politics, and I'm not sure why. Maybe because I can safely step back and mock it without worrying oh, shit, these people represent me? Which is less of a significant point in recent years, given Blair's special relationship, but it might be it.
And all of that said, on the Democrat side it's time to mock Biden again. Okay, so he's fairly easy to mock, but I just looked at his official site and noticed a tab marked "Email Joe."
...wha-huh. "Email Joe"? Yes, I appreciate it's the man's name. In fact, according to Wikipedia his full name is Joseph Robinette Biden, so it's hard to blame him for going by a dimunutive. But. But but. "Email Joe"? I find this far too amusing. Perhaps I've been conditioned by the "Right Honourable Gentleman" environment of British politics? Or maybe this is just Biden trying to be a hoopy frood, which given his performance on The Daily Show, is far more likely.
Anyway! Enough babbling about politics. I need to go and write a politics essay, which is much less fun.
