So, my next post was supposed to be a recs post, but then along came remix and buggered up my plans a little. Needless to say, there will be extensive reccage. Just not now. Still, I can rec the whole of it, can't I? Of course I can. I hereby rec the entirety of
Remix Redux IV (I Know What You Did Last Remix), by
musesfool. *g* My single contribution is in there somewhere - and nearly wasn't, due to a combination of eighth-week drunkenness,
amchau retreating to a Buddhist monastery for the duration and my singular lack of competence as a human being - but I haven't bailed yet, and like last year, I made the banner. Ta-da. Comprehensive rec.
In the meantime,
troyswann tagged me for this meme:
Name ten of life's simple pleasures that you like most, then pick ten people to do the same. Try to be original and creative and not to use things that someone else has already used.
Hmmm.
1. That delicious moment where you realise you can sleep in, and reach out to slap your alarm clock into silence. More than sleeping, I love snoozing; it's the joy of the in-between time where you're not sufficiently sentient to have to process things but awake enough to enjoy it. In fact, I think I wrote a positively orgasmic rendering of this state of being in Running From Themselves. I channel myself quite a lot in fic, I'm discovering lately.
2. When someone you don't know recs you, and you stumble across it accidentally. Having long discarded my adolescent dreams of BNFdom, I love that brief frisson of "yay someone loves me!"
3. Catching sight of my three die-cast baby Daleks, currently standing sentinel over my laptop. They're just so
cute. They're called Huey, Dewey and Louis, and Louis seems to have acquired a Lindt bunny bell from somewhere, which just makes him cuter.
4. Hall dinner. Balliol hall food is rather far above the college average in terms of quality, but that's not it; I just like it as a focal point of the day, the half an hour where the most important thing in life really is roast carrots in honey.
5. Related to no.4, the pleasure of having an academic argument with someone who is a perfect match for you and having it without noticing; suddenly you're in tute mode, with your mind precisely and clearly focused as the outside world fades away. I love that more than anything else, I think.
6. Being able to see your breath.
7. Movement. I can't sit still. Walking, driving, riding, flying, swimming... all of these things make me happy.
8. Banana muffins. With coffee.
9. The realisation that no one else is home, and you can in fact, if you want to, dance round the room like an eejit to the most embarrassing music in your playlist. (Why do I even own Britney Spears' Toxic?)
10. There is still one Harry Potter book left.
Ta-da, again. Now I think I should go to bed. Purely for my reference, tomorrow I have to:
-get up
-deposit cheques
-pick up tickets for Amsterdam
-email MP
-buy tealights, white candles, tortillas, compost
-go to work.
G'night, all.
