raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (doctor who - romana)
According to one of the local newspapers, the temperature hit -14ºC overnight. I don't know if this is true, but I can believe it. We have no snow, because it's too cold and too clear, and everything is now coated with frost. None of that delicate dusting that lives in song and story, this is kickass thick frost that has refused to shift. The streams that irrigate the fields round about are frozen solid. It is is all very Dickensian. I would stay inside and admire it from the warm, or, alternatively, go to the beach, which must be very pretty if freezing, but sadly I had to go to maths tution. And I was not teaching, I was being taught. I hate maths. Thankfully [livejournal.com profile] hathy_col is coming round later with Christmas spirit and the second-to-last of the Jagaroth, and I'm looking forward to it.

So, in the meantime, some fic recs. No Christmas Invasion stuff, as none of the posted snippets has really caught my eye as being particularly good (and this includes my own) but for some reason, there's been an avalanche of One!fic. I like:

Closed Circle by [livejournal.com profile] calapine. Eee. Freaky cool timeline-twisty fic where Rose goes to meet the first Doctor and Susan, and she's old and the Doctor is young, and it's all terribly sad.

Lineage by [livejournal.com profile] doyle_sb4. Susan and her grandfather go to Java, and she meets the saddest man she's ever seen. This is also timeline-twisty and very sad, and it totally ignores Lungbarrow, thank god.

And, also technically One!fic, [livejournal.com profile] prydonianfic - people writing university fic, yay! All of these feature Theta Sigma, Koschei and Ushas, who will, bless their hearts, grow up to be the Doctor, the Master and the Rani. I've done one, The Bell Jar, [livejournal.com profile] calapine did one for me, First Steps, and [livejournal.com profile] wishfulaces did another one, Anticipation, for [livejournal.com profile] dw_santa, and if there's any more I'd like to be told about them. There's also I Speak For Gallifrey ([livejournal.com profile] calapine again) which fits the general definition but is far too scary to be included with all the light and fluffy stories. The appeal of it, I think, is you can see how in their baby selves what they're going to be like, and all the stuff that makes them friends now is going to make them deadly enemies when they're grown up.

But mostly it's just a chance to see baby!Doctor and squee a bit.

Now more maths. I hate maths, yes.

Spaaaaam.

raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (girl!Doctor - the oncoming storm)
Music spam again! These are my three songs of the moment:

Texas - Halo (oldie but goodie; I got this album for my thirteenth birthday!)

Stars - Heart (downloaded this off someone on my flist, I'm not sure who, but I loved it so much I've ordered the album off Amazon)

Counting Crows - A Murder Of One (I hadn't listened to this in a couple of years and had therefore forgotten how wonderful it is, and it is)

(Comment if you like/download and I'll know about it when they die)

And I'm looking for these two, if anyone has them:

Gary Jules - Mad World
Stereophonics - Dakota

And now, bed. I have to work a full day tomorrow, waaah.
