Europe

Can anyone tell me if the Council of the European Union and the European Council are the same thing?

Talking of Europe (which I have been for the last hour; explaining the functions of the European Commission and its twenty-one commissioners to the wall) Pedar wants me to vote on his behalf in the European Parliament elections next week, despite my protests that this is a) unethical, b) immoral, and c) incredibly illegal. I think I'll vote Conservative just to piss him off.

Huh. I'm bored. Of revision and stuff, and also of life in general. I can't write anything unless I start from scratch, for obvious reasons; cue a time-wasting poll.

[Poll #302873]

I really liked the ideas I got from the last one of these, so it seemed worth doing it again just for something to think about. As a brief reminder, I can't write about what I don't know, but I do know Stargate, M*A*S*H, Harry Potter, Good Omens, Discworld, Enterprise, Red Dwarf, and His Dark Materials. I won't promise anything, but I have a lot of reasons to procrastinate, and well, you never know.

Having revised the Parliamentary Commissioner for Adminstration for an hour, I am yet to find out if the PCA is a person, a department or a person with a department.

More politics revision; or, what happens when Arthur Weasley decides his human rights have been infringed by the Ministry when they refuse to let him have a flying car. )

Morbidity

Because I'm a morbid person and spamming LJ seems to be the way to go, I am now going to talk at length about the stories that are gone. Possibly if I talk about them I will stop considering wasting a lot of time re-writing them as incredibly uninspired inferior versions of their former selves, and actually, like, revise.

Firstly, the Fic That Dare Not Speak Its Name. It did have a real name, as it happens; I was planning to call it "In Antiquity", which is one of those nice, double-meaning titles that hit you late at night. Besides, I'd always wanted to give a fic a title that starts with a preposition. The only person who saw any of it was [livejournal.com profile] amchau, who saw the first few paragraphs when I was in an expansive mood. It was the only fic I've ever researched thoroughly (I took out books from the library and everything!) and I was considering changing it into present tense, having written it in past until then, and was dreading the possibility of changing six thousand words into present tense.

Don't have that problem any more, do I.

Secondly, a Harry Potter fic. Cross-gen het, of all things, and I'd actually just finished it - it was coming up on three thousand words. I was in the stage of pruning and re-writing bits of it, and I'd already converted this one into present tense, which was making me wonder why exactly I'm on such a present-tense kick at the moment. It was one of those eminently plotless things, almost PWP, and it was Remus/Hermione. I kid you not. I actually really enjoyed writing it, as well; its working title was "Dichotomy" and there was something irresistibly decadent about it.

Thirdly, a Stargate story that I originally intended to be slash, but was turning rapidly into pre-slash and I was pretty sure it would be gen eventually. It was primarily a humour story, with Daniel not so whumped he couldn't be snarky, and it was set on that incredibly purple planet from Forever in a Day. I am aware that Daniel hallucinated said planet, but I wondered exactly why your subconscious would hallucinate a planet with purple plants, rocks and sky, and decided it was going to be a real planet. Yes. And Daniel was barefoot. It was a fun fic. The working title was "Purple", but I was pretty sure I was going to change that.

Lastly, a Discworld fic. I've never completed a Discworld fic, and I probably wouldn't have finished this one, but I liked it nevertheless. It was about Vimes-as-Keel, in the fight the day after the Glorious Twenty-Fifth of May, suddenly recognising the young Vetinari with his throwing knives and the lilac in his mouth. I had no idea if it was going to be slashy, but it might have been. Its working title was "Lilac", but I don't seem to like colours as titles; I was planning to change that too.

Thankfully, [livejournal.com profile] amchau has the current version of Finding Jonas. It's probably the only fic I'm going to write in the next few weeks.

Spamspamspamspamspam.

This is the first of the poll-fics (for some reason, you all wanted fic set on the beach). So, specifically, this is the first beach!fic. It's for [livejournal.com profile] amchau. [livejournal.com profile] language_idling's beach!fic should follow tomorrow.

Stargate SG-1, G, gen (sorry, Am-Chau; slash is still not forthcoming!)

The beach was perfect )
