The Death of Ravens
Oct. 20th, 2003 05:16 pmSo, yes. A few things have happened; to be read as I am bored and am spamming you all.
I've spammed a few of you already, as I've spent the afternoon updating
autumnalis. And getting rather bored. Dadi, meanwhile, has been watching a terrible serialisation of the Ramayana. Because everyone knows the story, they can get away with the most awful special effects and worst actors ever seen. It's utterly dire. But Dadi seems to like it. She keeps on point out the various characters to me, even the most obvious ones - I mean, evil cackling laughter tends to imply that yes, this is the villain, and yet she persists in stating the obvious. Said villain, Ravan, has always been a character I find interesting. Some members of my extended family seem to find the similarities between "Ravan" and "Raven" endlessly amusing. Maybe I should have chosen Ravan for my pen-name. The only problems would be a) offending people, and b) I'm a girl.
Not that Raven is necessarily exclusively female. But still, I suppose it's the way a name sounds. Talking of ravens in general, I really love the one who is the interpreter for the Death of Rats, paraphrased here:
"You're not the Death of Ravens as well, are you?"
SQUEAK.
"You have a pointy snout."
From that, it can be inferred that I've finished Reaper Man and am now onto Soul Music. It's the only book I've ever read that really makes me feel very very sorry for Death. He's depressed, and is trying to forget - Albert tells him there are two ways humans do it. The first one is imbibing large quantities of alcohol, and the second one is joining the Klaatchian Foreign Legion. Death tries both, without much success. I feel genuinely sorry for him (yes, that is him in the icon) and this is me feeling sorry for a seven-foot-skeleton in a cowl and carrying a scythe.
Oh, and Susan is Very Cool.
I have also spent rather a lot of time talking to
hathy_col, who is on half term as well and has had a Bad Day. She and I are crashing KGV on Wednesday, which I'm looking forward to, even though I have to find my way to Homebase. The sheer agony of it. I'm sure Enid will be pleased, anyway - carrion-eating birds and ancient Egyptian goddesses notwithstanding.
There are other things to be said - I'm posting my mp3 player to Sony, long story there - and have been in sporadic contact with
purplerainbow, who still has no net acess and is somewhat unhappy that she has missed her first anniversary on LJ. I want to talk to her properly; will get the chance to tomorrow, methinks. You've heard the phrase, "You can't go home again?"
Well, I'm trying.
