raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (sam and her thoughts)
The day was not the shiznit, as Emma would say. However, I am now in the comfortable mid-evening stage of being in my nightie but still wearing all my jewellery, bracelets, earrings and all, and am in the mood to tell why the evening definitely was.

Becca got back from Butlin's yesterday desperate to get away from her family (I was distinctly reminded of [livejournal.com profile] purplerainbow, who came home from Spain saying the same thing) and wondered if we could go to the cinema tonight. I was all for it. Some rapid texting later, we'd ascertained that American Pie 3 was on at the Plaza tonight, and Emma couldn't come because she was babysitting and Meg couldn't come because she was in London. Pedar agreed to give me a lift so I wouldn't have to walk miles from the station, and he insisted Dadi came too, so the three of us went. I took the opportunity to borrow his phone and also to actually wear that Anarchy in the UK top, so that was all good.

Becca and I met in front of the cinema, went to buy tickets and various foodstuffs (Revels, in my case, because I love them entirely more than is healthy and only ever buy them at the cinema) and then I wheeled around at my name being called. It was none other than [livejournal.com profile] cucharita, with Ella and James, so after some talk (and aggravating of the cinema people, who were somewhat baffled as to why we were just standing there holding our tickets) we went in. It was in the little cinema, screen 2, which holds about, I don't know, forty people. It's tiny. We found a couple of empty rows, sat down and got to the important business of talking. Becca apparently stole a flashing mood ring from a shop at Butlins, and Enid's done stuff to her hair again. I don't think we talked about anything momentous, but it was just nice to see them again. It seemed like a long time.

And then the filmn started, putting paid to further talk. It was an American Pie sequel - yes, what were we expecting? - and it was mostly set-piece after disgusting-yet-strangely-compelling set piece, but it had its moments. The characters are more real than they were in the original (I didn't see the second one) although I was rather annoyed that once again, Finch didn't get the girl. I always kind of liked him. Anyone who can drag Descartes into everyday conversation is worthy of my respect, at least. Anyway, it wasn't fantastic, but it had its moments. And it's one of the few films I've ever seen where everyone in the cinema is yelling at the screen.

That's the problem with going to the cinema, though - you don't have the time to talk as much as you'd like to. I only had a few minutes' conversation with Becca, but it was more than I expected, as Pedar came to pick me up and we dropped her off along the way. We talked briefly about Pirates of the Caribbean - my friends list won't stop talking about it, and Becca told me Johnny Depp in eyeliner is a sight worth seeing. On the subject of eyeliner, Enid said Placebo are splitting up! Not true, is it?
Also according to Becca, East 17 were at Butlins. Anyone remember them? Oh, so camp. But that was so many years ago.

And that is all. Wish we'd had longer to talk; next time I see everyone will be Thursday. Eep.
