raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (rock 'n' roll)
First things first - [livejournal.com profile] scarlatti's back! Yay!

However, perhaps to balance things out, [livejournal.com profile] gamesiplay is disappearing for a week.

And thirdly - [livejournal.com profile] language_idling - I've been trying to tell you this for a while, but LJ has been being squiffy. I got your postcard! My family neglected to inform me of its arrival until yesterday, when they casually inquired if I knew anyone in Montreal. The mind boggles as to how a postcard addressed to "Iona" couldn't be for me. How many people named Iona do they know?

Fourthly - A-level results. Good luck, everyone, not that you need it. GCSEs are a week from today, apparently. I have a feeling that I'll be somewhat freaked out by then.

And fifthly - I actually have plans for today. In a strange break from tradition, [livejournal.com profile] purplerainbow and I are meeting and spending the day together. Anyone else we could have invited is in Cornwall/Butlins/Spain/the Maldives/Switzerland/some such place. We plan to buy beads and talk a lot, which is not such a break from tradition. I ought to finish getting dressed and do my hair, as I'm going to be late.

And there you go, that's all. Oh, yes, one more thing - I've got a fic going on at the moment, light, fluffy, mostly gen and no angst - features Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs in their heyday. I need ideas for practical jokes, in other words. Anyone?

I reached Liverpool on time, for once, and Hannah was already there. We didn't do much today, but if I remember rightly, the very first thing we did was go to Music Zone, where she bought a couple of CDs and books (I got Chocolat) and we went on to get cookies and go to Quiggins, where I got beads, and Hannah bewailed the lack of purple ones. I also thought about it for quite a while and finally bought the Sex Pistols Anarchy in the UK pink top from Grin. Hannah approved, and I was glad. While we were in Woodstock, we looked at the latest Save Quiggins (Save Our Culture) posters. In a brief examination, we found Bagpuss, Scooby Doo, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Will Smith, Spider-man and possibly John Lennon on it. Hannah remarked that not many cities have their own song ("Ferry across the Mersey...") and their own band ("We all live in a yellow submarine; we didn't like the colour so we painted it green...")

That done, we went to Subway and bought sandwiches. We also went to Palace, did very little there, and finally, we ended up on the plinth again, talking. I wished [livejournal.com profile] hathy_col was there - there was a Jesus man! He kept on shouting, "Don't be a sinner, be a winner!" and he came and told us we were sheep and had we found Jesus? I yelled back, yeah, he was behind the sofa all the time, but he didn't listen. He ran off with his microphone and called for all to hear about the joy in finding God.

While ignoring him, Hannah and I talked about various things. Good Omens, for one - we're both agreed on how adorable Aziraphale is. Hannah also liked Crowley's longstanding interest in Freddie Mercury ("Handel's Water Music, vocals by F.Merury"). We also discussed M*A*S*H ("I'm handing myself over to the Chinese!") Oscar Wilde (she never knew he wrote The Selfish Giant, I never knew he was a homosexual and yes, that was why he was in Velvet Goldmine), the sex-lives of earthworms ("They're kind of like magnets") and Placebo (The Bitter End is about stalking!) and Brian Molko (gnuugh).

I don't know where the time goes. I told Dadi I'd be home by three, but I didn't get in till half five. We watched M*A*S*H, and I came up to find a full inbox. Thank you, everyone who commented on the previous post. Practical jokes galore.

Oh, yes - Colleen's home. I had a wonderful conversation with her, some of which I have to reproduce:

Hathor: I was actually thinking about ficcie on the way- I tried to explain slash and was given strange looks thew whole time I was away.
"Colleen, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin aren't gay!" "I wasn't saying they were, I just said they had feelings for each other!" "That's the same thing!" "NO IT ISN'T!"

Raven: *cracks up* who says they're not gay?! can you imagine them paired with girls?! out of interest, how did Sirius and Remus end up in the conversation?

Hathor: We were talking about the internet, and I mentioned LJ. She asked what I did on it, and I said I posted about fangirly stuff and whatnot, and Megan bellowed across the table "Werewolf slash, you mean!" (she read over my shoulder one night) I then had to explain.

As I write this, I am metaphorically waving a banner which reads, "I slash werewolves."

I'm so sad.
