raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (Placebo)
I'm going to start this with a quote from [livejournal.com profile] osiris13:

"Three sets of major exams in three years. What kind of a fucked up system is that?"

I couldn't agree more if I tried. But no, we live by the system, we die by the system, and in between, we take exams. I'll take this moment to wish good luck to [livejournal.com profile] purplerainbow, [livejournal.com profile] shipperkitten, [livejournal.com profile] osiris13, [livejournal.com profile] cucharita, [livejournal.com profile] _detroit, [livejournal.com profile] chanandlerbong, [livejournal.com profile] hathy_col and [livejournal.com profile] amchau.
Not that they need it - and to whoever asked, mitosis is division of a cell that involves replication of all chromosomes to form diploid cells, and meiosis is cell division involving replication of all chromosomes that then split to form cells with the haploid number of chromosomes, ie gametes.

And that's done. I still haven't looked at homeostasis, but I don't care particularly. There is an exam, I have to take it, and I'll probably do all right. I'm leaving at eleven, which is much too early but my mother would panic otherwise. She's also afraid of my not having breakfast, so I guess I'll have to humour her and eat something. She's in a much worse state of panic than I am, and this is my exam. Bizarrely enough.

I'm not in a state of panic. I've got to teach Biology to [livejournal.com profile] cucharita later, which may be something of a strain on my resources, but blah. I don't care. Congratulations to the government, by the way - you have created a nation of sixteen-year-olds who do not care. This is what the system does.

"Hold your breath and count to ten, fall apart, start again..."

I did the exam. I didn't freak out or walk out, which are both good things in some ways and bad things in others. I did the exam, front to back, and answered all the questions, and wrote my name, candidate number and centre number on the front (I am just a number) and that was that.

I guess in a way it was a spiritual, life-affirming experience. Just not in any way I can think of. It was swelteringly hot, and we started late, and while I did know most things, except the fish and the kidneys, I made some stupid mistakes. For example, "instead of methane, lactic acid is produced in humane muscle" which I caught, and there must be more howlers which I didn't catch.

I went home in a dream, as I usually do after exams, and on the train started reading On the Road by Jack Kerouac, as I've never read it, and predictably it's making me feel even more restless. I think I may write something to explain my long held desire to get up and go; I've thought about it for a while but it's not something I can easily put in words. I'll think it about it some more before putting pen to paper.

In the meantime - if you want me, I'm not here. I'm somewhere far away, eating an apple and sunning myself.

Funny love!

Trying to limit the "Yay!" factor, but...

I have a Pucca purse!

It's large, flat, red, leather, has a "Funny love" bit on the zip, and it's just so cute. So so cute. And it matches my school bag, which I still blame [livejournal.com profile] flickgc for.

And yes, I love it uberly and am entirely too excited about all of this. But it's so cute. And it matches my school bag. Did I say that already?

Well, yes. I'm all happy now. Examination depression notwithstanding, all it takes to make me happy is something pretty in red leather. I'm so shallow.

But it's so pretty.

It's all right, I'm finished now.
