"Last night, she said..."
May. 4th, 2003 12:44 pmLast night was really not bad. Becca came, and Mani was there, and the people started coming at about eight (we told them to come at seven). We watched the Simpsons and ate popcorn to start with (in the episode we were watching, Lisa was given a M*A*S*H colouring book, which I found totally bizarre). But fairly soon, we had to go round being polite, handing round nibbles and looking after the kids. They told us there wouln't be any kids. They lied.
They put the kids in my room, led by Chanun-the-brat, and under her guidance they pretty much trashed it. I was sublimely pissed off, but all that came later. Before then, we had to cope with nibbles, food, dessert, drinks, kids, malfunctioning circuit breakers, everything that required running around getting stressed, but Becca and Mani were a real help, and we had a good time, making it a combined effort, and I actually enjoyed most of it, despite the stress.
At about half eleven, Pedar let me know he'd got something for me. It turned out to be a large bottle of Smirnoff Ice. Therefore, the adults were playing Antakshari, the kids were quietly killing each other, so Becca, Mani and me retreated into a corner of the kitchen with three stools, three glasses, the ice bucket and the bottle. We were all very tired, so perhaps in retrospect drinking wasn't such a good idea, but we did it anyway, and twenty minutes later the bottle was empty and Becca and Mani had just discovered that "Come Undone" is a brilliant drinking song. So is "I'm with you" by Avril Lavigne, and so is "YMCA" together with the dance. Chanun came down and tried to annoy us, but thankfully vodka mix was too much for her, not that we tried to feed her any, we were just too happy and too foul-mouthed for her.
When the guests started to leave, we had to tidy up. My room was a wreck, and that little brat had poured water over the maths papers I did yesterday morning, and the ink was starting to fade (my mother says it's my fault, natch). So I swore a lot, picked up the crap off the floor, tidied up, and Mani and Becca helped me with the bedding for the night. There was a sleepover atmosphere, but we were all so tired we fell asleep instantly, and didn't wake up till ten o'clock this morning.
Morning comprised of breakfast, Karen getting here entirely too early to pick Becca up, and making plans for next weekend. Mani says she'll come into central London to meet us. I'm looking forward to it.
