I got up late this morning. When Lucy was on the train, Becca was in her nightie and I was in bed. It took a while before we all landed in Liverpool together. Immediately, we went to Clayton Square, the first of many trips there. I was looking for cut-off gloves, but I didn't find any, so I bought that bracelet I like - it's made of what feels like black telephone cable that holds in small heavy metal spikes. I love it.
Then... well, not much. We retrieved Bev from Internacionale (she's working there now at weekends) at about two, and met Yusra. We'd already been to Millie's Cookies - although I was the only one who actually bought cookies. I got a bag of rainbow cookies, Becca got carrot cake which she raved about, and Lucy had a brownie. The three of us were perched on the ledge outside the Body Shop and reduced to shamelessly orgasmic pleasure by food. Sad.
Bev and Yusra were sandwich virgins. So was Lucy. I yelled, "You're a virgin!" a bit too loud. When Becca complained I yelled "You're a SANDWICH virgin!" and she hit me.
The sandwiches were good. After Bev had gone into Karen Millen in order to gawp at the prices, we headed across the city to the Music Zone-place, and I bought a CD. Between us we bought a lot of music today. Avril Lavigne's Let Go, the Fun Lovin' Criminals' album, the Cruel Intentions soundtrack, Justin Timberlake's album and Feeder's Comfort in Sound. I leave it to the gentle reader to guess who bought what.
Yusra wanted to go to Schuh. I saw a pair of boots in there, heavy black books with metal buckles and a metal heel, gorgeously chunky and dominatrix-y. I wanted them so much... but unfortunately I am not a millionaire. Oh, well.
We went to Quiggins last. Lucy got a Barbie is a Slut top from Woodstock. I bought a star ring with the last of my money, and Becca, shockingly, got the new schoolbag she wanted. It's denim with a small cat on it, with plenty of space to stick the badges. I was very proud of her.
Bev's mum was up in Clayton Square, buying Bev's birthday presents - pants with dangly bits, kinda like mine. We stayed and made polite conversation before getting the train. I got to know Lucy a little better today... I think it was mutual. "You know," she said, meaning me and Becca, "I didn't know you two were, you know, like that," and she snapped her fingers.
"Chalk and cheese," Becca said, "or little and large," she added on reflection.
It was a rather strange note. My phone rang at that point. It was Pedar. Becca guessed who it was, of course, but from the conversation she could hear - "Lost? It was lost? Oh, burnt up in re-entry? Like Challenger?" - she didn't understand. I explained it when I got off the phone. It's strange, that thought. I've seen the news reports now and see that North Texas residents heard a "big bang" at 1400 GMT. That's the strange part... when I was sitting in Subway eating a sandwich and giggling at my friends' antics, seven people died in space. It says the shuttle was travelling at 12,500 km/h when communications were lost. I find that a frightening thought.
I didn't get a lift home. I walked, and listened to Punk Rock Princess.
One last thing... I bought some dogtags today from Grin. They're in a neat brown paper package, labelled as US dogtags. I want to get them engraved... but I don't with what exactly. My name, birth date and blood type seem a good idea... but does anyone have any other ideas?
