Oh, sweet irony.
Oct. 9th, 2002 11:37 pmI got up this morning....
No. Fuck that. The pop concert...
At four o'clock, people started getting hysterical. I think I was still in denial at that point, when
eniddy appeared and told me Baker definitely wasn't compere-ing because she'd lost her voice. Oh, sweet irony. Plus her script reminded too many people of Dale Winton in his Supermarket Sweep days.
Anyway. By ten to seven there were people having hysterics into their lip gloss. There were also people with false eyelashes stuck to the wrong parts of their bodies, people wearing hotpants and fishnets and wondering why other people were looking at them strangely, and then there was me, in a state of numb disbelief.
And then we began. Enid started talking, I came in with my neuroblastoma bit, and suddenly it all started flowing over me. After a few minutes I noticed
lilka and
sexy_saba behind me, both of whom were amazingly calm and very reassuring. I don't know if I was any good, because I couldn't see the audience - all I could see was the huge spotlight blinding me, and occasionally, I could see the denizens of the soundbox roaming around like ethereal angels in baggy jeans.
Julie was amazing. She managed to give Enid and I posture coaching, plan the spotlights, start the music, get clothes for herself and prepare for any oncoming disasters, all in the space of a few minutes.
There were a few disasters. Jessica sprained her ankle and couldn't be in the Men in Black dance - I didn't notice, as I was too busy being mortified because the lighting people screwed up the MIB intro! All I really registered about the MIB dance was the fact I caught Emily's hat as she threw it off the stage. Emily now thinks I'll be the one to get married next. Hmm. Maybe not.
The second half was better, as neither Enid or I was nervous any more. The Mickey dance was sublime. So much so, that I don't like the thought of only seeing it once more!
The teacher's dance was even funnier. They called themselves Las Guapicimas and danced to Mambo No. 5. It was oddly compelling. So oddly compelling, that I nearly forgot to introduce Danni and Helena, who were very good, especially when you consider the fact Helena was throwing up everywhere a mere twenty-four hours ago, and Danni has a severe kidney infection.
When it ended, and we tidied up, and I went out to meet my mother, I found she was in a royal rage because I didn't call, and then we went to Lime Street to pick up Pedar, and as neither of them are talking to each other at all, it made for a wonderfully tense ride home.
I can't watch any more of Fire and Water or Singularity, because I want to go to bed. How strange... for the first time in about seven years, my real life has become busier than my online one. Never mind, after tomorrow everything will be back as it should be.
I taped Frozen for
snowdrop24 - I haven't taped Descent or Redemption! Problems there...
I also haven't had a single communication from
snowdrop24 or
purplerainbow the whole day. Isn't that strange?
Oh, well. My parents can carry on not talking to each other, it gives me a quiet life. I'm honestly okay, I'm still on a high.
