Suicide is painless

As a general rule, most comedies have happy, upbeat theme tunes. Take Friends as an example, which as everyone in the Western world knows, has the Rembrandts' I'll be there for you as its theme. And then there's Cheers, which has a theme tune more famous that the show itself. I loved it, because I grew up with it - even thinking about it makes me start humming it - "Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name...."
Which takes us to Cheers' spin off, Frasier, which has the happy and positively nonsensical "Tossed salads and scrambled eggs" as its theme.
All of this is leading up a point. Keeping all this in mind, can anyone tell me why one of the most sucessful, long running, and funny situation comedies in television history has a theme that runs, "Suicide is painless, it brings on many changes...."

Children of Earth

I just made a friend. *waves at scorpionmars* And there was me thinking I was the only Stargate+M*A*S*H person in the world.
Anyway, I watched Endgames today. Even Pedar did. He actually asked me when it was on, so he could watch it with me. It was only the first half - second half next week - but never mind.
Ooh, latest development - Em and I are planning to set up our own website for our own fic - just picture it, a site devoted to the Stargate fanfic of Raven, LittleKitten and Osiris.
But it needs a name. Suggestions, please!

And something else I found out today - Voyager has left the Solar System. By that I do not mean the starship, the USS Voyager. I mean Voyager 1, the deep space exploration probe launched in 1977. It's taken it 25 years, but it's finally left the neighbourhood, and in thirty thousand years it will pass Alpha Centauri. It will never stop. According to Newton's laws of motion, it has no forces acting upon it and will travel at a constant speed forever. It has on board the sounds of Earth in the seventies, including a recording a little boy saying, "Hello from the children of Earth!"
Any passing alien who picks it up will be baffled. But I like the thought of the probe being out there, going on forever and ever and ever....
