ravenI'm kinda bored at this point. Have answered all outstanding e-mail, read all mailing list messages, read everyone's lj, decided to watch Voyager today cause it's a good one, and come to the conclusion my life is complete crap.
Have always wanted to complain about America, so will take time to do so now. I have said before that the entire country is like a big red apple - pretty and shiny and rotten to the core. American teenagers have worse lives than we do. Their parents are terrified of them falling into a "bad crowd" so they keep them busy every waking minute. They all "take classes" - ballet, tap, ice skating, piano, etiquette! They never make their own plans - they can't because there's no such thing as public transport.
You know in Liverpool, the bombed-out church at the top of Bold Street? If you start there, walk all the way down, across the road and through the city, right up till you reach the courts at the other end, that's basically the whole city you've walked through, and as far as we know, Liverpool has been like that for hundreds of years. In America, there's no such thing! And as for courts itself... American parents are terrified their kids might just "hang out." Someone asked me what I do with my friends over there, I said "We hang out," and the whole room exchanged grim looks. They might as well have said out loud, "And she seemed so nice..."
One thing I found particularly hard to believe - once a year, they have sniffer dogs inspect their lockers for drugs! They thought my life was idyliic - maybe we don't have so much space as them, such perfect facilities, as much choice as they do, but we're free and they're not. That's it.
