Dear yuletide author,

Thank you very much for writing for me! I'm easy-going and if you write the story of your heart I will like it a lot. What follows is just in case it's helpful, nothing more.

Generally speaking, I'm happy with sex in my stories but don't really like PWPs. I don't do Christmas myself but I'm happy for it to be in my stories (except the Babysiters Club - see below). I like stories with bittersweet or tragic endings as well as ones with happy endings. My AO3 name is [archiveofourown.org profile] singlecrow. My big do-not-want is violence against women.

Fandoms:

John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme (season 9)
Characters: Newt, Gally, Susannah, Toby

Season 9 of the Souvenir Programme was basically the unexpected gift of 2021 for me! Don't feel like you have to get all the characters into the same story, that seems quite difficult. But I'd love something about Toby understanding the history of her family - Newt's real relationship to Vanessa doesn't seem to be common knowledge to the younger generations, and it would be so interesting to see Toby find out. Or alternatively, something about Newt, Gally and Susannah during the time they were all together? I love everything about their lovely queer family set-up and it would be fascinating to see how they navigate it during the 1920s and 30s.

(Also, in case you're interested, I wrote up something about why I love the show when I first listened to it over the summer.)

Jonathan Strange and Norrell
Characters: the Raven King, worldbuilding

I love this book and reread it every few years. This time around, I was struck by how much I'd love to see fic about the wider world the characters live in. I love the politics of a northern England that is so completely defined by its allegiance to the Raven King, flying his flag and telling stories about how he's been seen in England long after his departure. I feel like there's scope for a lot of imagination there, both in terms of magic and just day-to-day stuff.

What was it like, living under the Raven King's rule? (I love all the mad delightful glimpses we get of it - the year without summer, the adventure with the charcoal-burner!) What would it be like in England now? What does it to do the identity of the region? Would there be an independence movement in the north? Would magic be taught in schools and universities? Are the Strangeites and Norrellites still at each other's throats? What's it like to live in a world that has both technology and magic?

(ps. don't feel like you have to have the Raven King actually appear in your story if that's not where you want to go, I'm just as interested in his influence as I am in the man himself. Also, if it's worth knowing, I'm from the north of England too - Liverpool and the Sefton coast.)

The Babysitters Club (TV)
Character: Claudia Kishi

Claudia was my favourite in the books but she's super super my favourite in the tv show! God, I love her: I love how secure she is in who she is, and how committed she is to being the best artist she can be (and how seriously the show takes her ambition and talent). I would love anything about Claudia and her art. I'd also love something about her relationship to her own history and culture - I loved the episode where she thinks about the history of Japanese internment in America, and the ones where she decides to honour Buddhist tradition for Mimi.

Oddly, one thing I wouldn't be that interested in is babysitting itself - I think I'd prefer to see Claudia interact with her peers and the adults. And it does seems to be a yuletide tradition to write fic about the kids when they're older, which I would also really enjoy!

(Please could I not have a Christmas story here - I know the other kids do celebrate it but given that Claudia's family are explicitly observant Buddhist, I'd rather not.)

Thank you very much, again - I hope you enjoy writing your story.
