You're very welcome! I think you'd like Mars Evacuees in particular - it's short but very sweet. With Marvel, I should acknowledge that part of it's just me being contrary. I've tried to watch Thor and Avengers Assemble and I think they're fine, they just don't hold my interest - which has led to a little what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-me as EVERY fannish friend I have has, one by one, got majorly into the franchise over the last four or five years! Also I think that's played a not-insignificant role in my coming unstuck from the fannish mainstream, so it's hard not to resent the whole thing a little for that. Mostly it's me, and not the franchise itself, that's the problem! :)
I really do think you should try Hardinge - especially Gullstruck Island, I think you'll like it. And yes to recs! Always.
