Of course, I love Willow and Giles and Oxford too. <3 I've always thought that about Willow, too - that it was so much to give up, at seventeen; especially as she wasn't close to her parents, either, and didn't have them holding her home particularly. And then of course she doesn't get her degree, anyway! Which was all too complicated to put in this story, so I left it out. :) Not to mention that Buffy gets into Northwestern, which is somehow all the more heartbreaking.
You know, I always assumed Giles went back to Oxford after his friend dies. He does become a Watcher, which suggests to me that his father and his friends quietly smooth it over with the college and take him back. (I really want to rewatch "The Dark Age" now!)
