Hurray! This is so very appropriately subtle and heart-stirring in equal parts. I think, actually, Simon's conversations with "January" were my favorite bits, because he reveals so much of himself in them while simultaneously blocking the truth. Lime and sugar, indeed. And blood and bone, which is how Barrayarans approach service, Simon in particular, even if he doesn't see the deeper meaning right away.
