He's such an innocent in so many ways - he hasn't figured out what's going on with Escobar, at least not yet; and he's also adorably sweet about getting out of the way in a hurry because he thinks Cordelia will finally accept Aral's proposal! I like the little detail that it's him who finally gets her out of the brig and she's so pleased to see him she has to be careful not to kiss him. I just, I find it amazing that he can be the same character as the one who's going to giggle helplessly at the sinking of ImpSec HQ, but it is done well enough for you to believe that he is.
I love all of those things abut him, and yes, the fact that you can believe that this is all the same man is just wonderful. The main thread that holds his character together is Aral, IMO - that Simon orbits him, one way or another, is consistent from Shards right up to ACC (all those scenes, 'I have always leaned on you' and Miles' death and everything in Memory) by which point he's establishing his new self with Alys and without ImpSec.
Though him finding out abut Escobar isn't canon, it's specifically denied by Aral - though of course I think Aral just hasn't spotted it yet ;-).
