Mostly, I don't understand journal-deletion protests for the simple reason that if your journal is gone, no one has any way of finding out why you're gone, barring wibbly e-mails and "anyone know what happened to...?" posts. In any case, though, am glad all is well. ;) Having gotten a comment from you a couple hours before the deletion, I figured it was, but I'm glad you're back.
I'm not really on board with those who want to make it a feminist issue, because I doubt that it's that deep - I just think it's odd.
It is odd, more than a bit silly, and a knee-jerk reaction to a cheap-shot complaint that's not making anyone look good. I did defriend someone over their level of ranting re: the issue, I must admit, since I don't quite understand why it's so important to defend to the (LJ)death the right to force everyone to stare at your tits in your default icon -- hers pretty much did, and without the baby excuse. (Strips of tape in strategic places aren't fooling anyone.) Thus, the whole thing got old for me pretty quickly.
I know what you mean about LJ these days, though. Many small strangenesses can lead to significant issues in distressingly short order....
