raven: [hello my name is] and a silhouette image of a raven (pretty toys...)
I went into school this morning in mufti, armed with two bottles of red nail varnish, wearing Timberland boots. Within two minutes, the boots were on the table, Becca had hijacked the nail varnish, and [livejournal.com profile] cucharita had sprayed my hair full of red glitter. It was a beautiful moment. I proceeded to do Saria's hair myself, but we had to stop when what's-her-face came in. Mrs Williams. Gah.

I'd already met Lucy by that point, and resisted the urge to say something like, "Bite me, bitch." She'd gone the crackwhore route.... yes. Red fishnets, little black skirt, "Barbie is a slut" top, and black trench coat. My, my.

Becca decided not to wear anything stupid. But then, we went to assembly - it featured a guest speaker, a lot of placards, some crazy thirds and a whole lot of bananas and toothpaste - and came back out, and she changed her mind. She'd brought three of her dad's ties with her, and while we were in Physics, she tied two round her neck and one in her hair.

I was barefoot, that was my outrageous thing. It had a few effects I hadn't anticipated. Par exemple, it's amazing what people will not notice if it isn't pointed out. My reduced height and red toenails didn't even make much of a difference; if people didn't want to notice, they didn't. But there were things I noticed. The world is a very much more sensory, tantalising experience when you go through it barefoot. To annoy Becca, I started delivering a commentary wherever I went. "Yeah, I like this type of floor..."

To summarise those ramblings, I liked the centenary building best. The floor is smooth and retains heat, so it made it a pleasure to walk on; outside in the quad, the flagstones were worn and pleasantly rough, and they were warm in the sunlight and positively liberating to walk on. The Derby wing was the worst because of the hard terracotta tiles that literally sent shivers down me, similar to the ones I experienced every time I saw someone in stiletto heels come anywhere near. The only place I didn't like was the gravelly bit near the netball courts. That really hurt. Caroline even gave me a piggy-back ride. It was startling as hell, but nice.

Where was I? Physics. Mrs Custard still can't talk, so she just showed us videos on the origin of the universe. She tried to stop Helena painting her nails in the lesson, but I lent her the other bottle and she did her own nails, which was rather sweet. All the teachers had to wear something red. Some were crap and wore a red scarf - Mrs Jopling was frightening in top-to-toe red. I now have to find out stuff about SETI. I'm looking forward to doing that, actually - I think you can download software so SETI can use your computer when you're not using it, therefore helping with their effort. Or something like that. I will google for it later.

We were thrown out of ML4, so I grabbed any book from the library for Classics, during which I read constantly. I was in my favourite spot, near the back by the window, and I managed to read a hundred pages without much trouble. Ran out of glue. Oh, no(!)

And then, I went to French conversation, and I really really don't know why I did it. Why did I do that? Why? I should have skived it... but I didn't. I missed Meg's hair being done for the Big Hair competition. I saw her at lunch... that was a shock. It's hard to describe if you've never seen Megan, but for those who have, her hair had all been brushed out into blonde frizz in a huge cloud round her head, and they'd done little braids at the front and made them stick up at crazy angles with wire. There was a red ribbon to finish, and a touch of red water-soluble paint. Becca and I were in the front row for the parade, so we got a wonderful view.

Two of the other big hair models were [livejournal.com profile] emerald_embers and [livejournal.com profile] cucharita, which was a surprise to me. Enid's hair was sticking straight above her head. I later discovered this was because there was actually a hair-spray can which her hair had been stuck to. She had to walk very slowly so it didn't fall on her. So, they paraded up and down... and guess who won?

Meg. We won. She stood in front of most of the school, and was presented with a box of Celebrations for U5W to share and a Winnie-the-Pooh bear to be our form mascot for a year. The bear's name is Francesca, as well as Winnie-the-Pooh - it was a gift from Mme Menzies in honour of her brand new granddaughter, Francesca.
At that point, Mrs Williams tried to make me put shoes on, and failed. We wandered off to PE, and throroughly annoyed the PE staff by having no kit whatsover. We were just going to sit there, but Saria had Yusra, Becca-and-her-ties, and Crackwhore-Lucy all playing basketball. That was really quite odd. After that we had to go back, I hobbled over the gravel, and realised I had to do a timed essay.

Timed essay. Ugh. I rambled on for an hour and five sides about the English Literature poems, and I took off my bracelets and dogtags because they were annoying me while writing, and the time just disappeared. I don't know where it went. I don't understand stuff like timed essays. How did I write five sides of "bullshit" while Julie wrote three sides of "crap" and Yusra wrote a side and a half of "rubbish?"
Ah, I don't know. It's all done.

Walked home with Becca. It was so sparkling bright; we were walking straight into the sunlight, and I really felt at peace with the world. At the train station I had to break a tenner and didn't even get pissed off about it, not even when my fiver went flying down the platform and was caught by the ticket guy himself.

That's that, I'm home, and will fall in the shower in a moment to get rid of the sweat 'n' glitter.

This update was positively cruel; I'm sorry, but I have no-one to talk to. [livejournal.com profile] purplerainbow's not here, and [livejournal.com profile] cucharita and [livejournal.com profile] _detroit have gone to see Tenacious D tonight.

Yes, I'm really finished now.

This is the link to the PLAB 2 video - here.

It's a nice, neat, well-thought-out description of how the OSCE examination works. Only recommended for those with broadband connections.

[Edit: This should have been a private entry. Now it isn't I won't change it, but don't any of you lovely people worry your heads about it]
