Well.

Okaaaay! Who is Matt Smith?

eta: (ps. David Tennant's real accent? BEST THING EVER.)

son of eta: dude, brush your HAIR, you're on national television.

He was in Party Animals, some BBC Drama about political aides or something. IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1741002/)

I think he looks like he ought to have been in Twilight or something. He looks like he might turn the Dr gothic or even potentially an angsting emo. Which I can't see as being that great. He's too young for my liking.

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine too, I think. I'm really not sure about this...

(Although, that special did remind me all over again why I liked Tennant so much, so.)

[identity profile] balthaser.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Is he your favourite Dr then?

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Tennant? Yeah, definitely. I like Peter Davidson and I like Paul McGann a lot, but mostly, him. And I remember being much less uncertain about him, but we shall see...

[identity profile] eternalwings.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Me neither, although it's again disturbing me that AGAIN I seem to fancy the Doctor.

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that ship has sailed...

[identity profile] eternalwings.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well true, this one looks like a scruffy english version of a french actor I adore so now I'm doubley dead.

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
But, but. Sam. He is our age. What is with that.

[identity profile] eternalwings.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He's 26! I'm still far off that thank you XD but...yes...confusing...very confusing.

He does have an older soul type thing going on. Plus as someone over at Torch_wood pointed out, can you imagine Captain Jack's reaction to a jailbaity Doctor? That alone might be worth it!

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Stop reminding me of your tender age, it makes me feel old.

(Oh, god. Why do you say these things?)

[identity profile] eternalwings.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
-does the dance of only nearly nineteen-

(You must admit, it'll be funny. Also, as my friend is also pointing out it'll be a VERY interesting dynamic if they bring the Master back again..)

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone further down this comment thread has noted Matt Smith's incredible resemblance to someone familiar. Oh god.

[identity profile] eternalwings.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
...If your boyfriend looks like him I am INSANELY jealous right now XD

[identity profile] macadamanaity.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right?

[identity profile] macadamanaity.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, I'm sure he'll be fine and they haven't steered me too wrong yet but... I don't handle change well. STOP CHANGING, WORLD! (Or alternatively, if you're going to change, do it in drastic and interesting ways like, say, not having a Youngish White Dude as the Doctor.)

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Bring on Sandi Toksvig, is what I say.

[identity profile] macadamanaity.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that would be so fucking awesome!

[identity profile] forthwritten.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
BIC RAZOR ACTION. Seriously, what is with the hair?

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe the wind changed and it stuck.

[identity profile] ancalemon.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot get past how young the actor is. I didn't think I cared that much, jeez, but he's twenty-freaking-SIX! WEEEEIRD.

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I knoooooow. I mean, I'm twenty-two (almost). I should not be nearly as old as the Doctor.

He looks scarily like your boyfriend IMO. See this (http://www.gallifreyone.com/picview.php?ret=news&sub=news&id=TH1_3120096TH1_NCE-0301-05-0201_213028.jpg) publicity photo, for example..

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Okaaaaaay. I think I am going to have a quiet lie down now.

They're also the same age, almost exactly.

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-03 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
srsly, that is a TERRIFYING resemblance. Oh my.
ext_99338: Somebody at a desk, writing (Default)

[identity profile] jmkg.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry if this breaks your brain. But the resemblance really just jumped out, so I had to share..

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I am quite acclimatised to it now. It is rather pleasing, in fact.

[identity profile] vampire-kitten.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my goddess, the BBC secretly cloned Shim.

Oh so wrong.

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
isn't it just. I mean. srsly.

Does this make you the new companion?

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn, I'm going down in the world. People used to say I was the Doctor.

*leaps back from the computer!* Wow.

[identity profile] emily-shore.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm very cross. I was prepared to do a post saying how the Doctor casting choice was reminding me of the US presidential election... "will it be a black man? will it be a woman?"

But now it seems it's like the US presidential election, only with McCain winning.

(I know nothing about the actor, of course. He could be perfectly good. Just....)

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It all seems a gimmick, in retrospect. Like they knew all along, but enjoyed building the tension.

(I'm told he is good! We shall see.)

[identity profile] thiswaltz.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
my first thought was of course, he is way too young! The doctor can't be just 5 years older than me! and one of those promo pics looks way too Twilight. He better not sparkle, is all I'm saying.

but just the same, I didn't expect to like Ten back when Nine left. So. I'm not giving up hope yet. Anyway, now that I'm working my through Old Skool )and my all time favourite Doctor turns out to be from the old series) I seem to take NuWho a lot less seriously for some reason.

(My second thought was that maybe they wanted a young guy who they could keep in the part for the next decade or something so they can stop blowing through regenerations so fast. they can't last another 26 years if they run out of Doctors.)

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-04 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I do love Tennant a whole lot, but I think I expected to... I'm not sure. But, I have resolved to keep an open mind re: Matt Smith. We shall see.

The BBC seem to have quietly dropped the thirteen-regen limit. It's possible they never thought they would come up against it...

As you said in one of your comments, I've resolved to keep an open mind.

He definitely seems young, and I wasn't terribly impressed by the Confidential interview, but I think until I see him in action as The Doctor, there's no real way to know how good (or bad) he'll actually be.

[identity profile] thunderemerald.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
This wasn't your first time hearing DT's real accent, was it? WAS IT? *squee*

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-05 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, no, no. (I met the man once. It was traumatic.) But I forget, and it is so very pretty...

[identity profile] thunderemerald.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, you met him once? Tell me things about THAT! I like Tennant-related trauma!

(Oh, SO pretty. I could listen to him speak for hours. And I have, too. Yay audiobooks.)

[identity profile] loneraven.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I worked at the BBC for a while in early 2007, and was in Current Affairs, i.e., in London, and miles away from entertainment and BBC Wales, and on my way down to the canteen one day, I saw him. He was obviously on a break, standing and talking to people and drinking coffee, and I just. froze. Could not say a word. Went and hid behind a pillar for a while, and then got up the courage to go through the room to where I was going! I guess I should have stopped and talked to him, but a) I was terrified and b) he was obviously enjoying a break from screaming fangirls and c) terrified.

[identity profile] thunderemerald.livejournal.com 2009-01-06 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god. I would have frozen too. I mean, in my head I can see myself playing it cool, just sort of walking by him, not really interrupting his conversation, but just tapping him on the shoulder and going "Love your work!" before throwing him a smile and going on my way. This has worked ONCE in my entire history of being fangirly (with Kaia Wilson, the insanely hot backup singer that Amy Ray had on her solo tour this time around), but the odds of it working with Tennant would be slim to none. I'd probably start off well with the shoulder tapping thing, and then trip over something and go "SAVE ME DOCTOR."
