Dear Yuletide author:

Dear Yuletide author,

My AO3 name is [archiveofourown.org profile] singlecrow. Thank you very much for writing a story for me. Optional details are optional. If you have a story of your heart, off you go and write that. What follows is only if it is useful to you.

Generally about me: I like people being good to each other in my stories; I like bittersweet and wistful (on which more below); I like banter, and competence, and quiet moments, and people expressing their love for each other in small ways.

I don't like PWPs (I like sex & kink just fine, but not as the only thing in a story), violence against women, or men in positions of dominance over women.

I don't have any triggers or squicks. I'm not a Christmas-celebrating person, but very happy to have festive elements in my stories. And, just so you know, while I do love a happy ending, I am by no means committed to them. If you want to write a melancholy story for Yuletide, I am more than here for it.

More on my fandoms:

Wolf 359 (radio)

Characters: Doug Eiffel, Renée Minkowski

(How much do I love that the tagset takes Wolf 359 at its word and uses "radio" rather than "podcast" as the explanatory tag? thiiiis much.)

So! Doug Eiffel, my favourite total loser! who is the unexpected moral compass of the Hephaestus, oh no. I love that Eiffel, slacker, pop culture junkie slopes-around-the-ship-in-his-pants dude, is a principled pacifist, unlike tough, ruthless, deeply loyal-and-loving Minkowski who will do anything to save her crew, and the show doesn't tell you that either of them is wrong. And their friendship that arises from their directly contrasting personalities, which turns out to be so good for both of them. I love that. In particular, I would love something post-canon about it. I was completely destroyed (in the good way) by the ending scene of the show, where both we and Minkowski suddenly understand that she's going to have to learn to know Eiffel again from scratch, as though he were a different person. I'd love to see more about that: about how Eiffel manages without his memory of the Hephaestus and how the two of them become friends again. I'd also love to know something about Anne, Eiffel's daughter, and if he ever brings Minkowski to meet her, maybe? (She'd be a good role model, right?) Does Eiffel ever tell Anne about the Dear Listeners, for that matter?

That said, I know this is not the happiest of subjects! If you want to write a light-hearted story of them sniping pre-day 500 or something like that, I would also be thrilled just to see them hang out.

The Amelia Project (podcast)

Characters: Alvina, the Interviewer

So I just got into this deeply weird little podcast, and I find it fascinating. I love how we sit in on Alvina and the Interviewer every week and hear all about their clients, but they themselves remain so much of a mystery. We get little clues about the Interviewer (his middle name is Arthur! he may, possibly, have been a notable public figure before he started running Amelia) and we even get hints that he's in love with Alvina, but other than his passion for cocoa and champagne, we know nothing at all about him. I'd love a story that touches on this mystery.

Similarly, Alvina: how did she end up working for Amelia? Is this just a run-of-the-mill job for her, or does she also have a mysterious backstory? Was she a former client? Was the Interviewer a former client? Is that how they met? I'd love a story that explores any of this, or alternatively any of the deliciously creepy mythos of Amelia itself. I particularly like the added layer of Cole and Haines in season 2, and I'd also love something that incorporates their tapes.

(NB. I'm writing this at the end of October & Cole has just declared they're going to storm Amelia! Who knows what will happen next, but feel free to assume I'll be caught up on the show by December 25th.)

T Kingfisher - Swordheart

Character: Zale

Zale is my favourite put-upon nonbinary lawyer-priest in all of fiction. The fact that they may be the only put-upon nonbinary lawyer-priest in all of fiction is not in the slightest bit relevant, I LOVE ZALE. This bit of my letter is shorter than the other bits but honestly that's just because I love Zale so much I would like literally anything more about them. How did they come to be called to the Rat's service? Have they always thought of themself as nonbinary, or did they have a specific coming-out process? What are they going to do with themself after Halla's inheritance problems are solved? Give me anything, I'll love it.

Hilary Tamar Mysteries - Sarah Caudwell

Characters: Selena Jardine, Julia Larwood

[This is cut and pasted from my 2016 sign-up but nothing about my feelings has changed.]

HI YOU LOVE THESE TOO HI. I love these books so much! (Passers-by: they are a series of hilarious gentle murder mysteries solved by an Oxford legal academic (who is, by the bye, never gendered) while assisted by four young and hapless members of the Chancery Bar.)

I confess: I ship Selena and Julia like burning. I want all the rumours around the West London County Court to finally come true and for them to fall in love (competently on Selena's part, chaotically on Julia's) and live - barring Mr Justice Wellieboots - happily ever after. But I love how good friends they are, too. I love how Selena patiently goes to rescue Julia whenever necessary. I love Julia's sincere and whole-hearted belief that Selena is the best advocate at the Bar. They're so great together, I love them.

Also, I am an English lawyer. If you want to write me a tedious courtroom drama about the Finance Acts, I'm here for it, is what I'm saying.

That's it. Happy yuletide! Optional details are optional!

Good morning! I'm not a Yuletide Writer, but I have recently discovered T. Kingfisher, and I loved "Swordheart". I sincerely hope you will share if you receive any Yuletide offerings in that venue.

Thank you!
