More real life stuff
When I got back, Pedar wanted to know, "Who do you know in Savannah, Georgia?"
(He was on a conference there once and thoroughly disliked the place, although it happened to be St Patrick's Day at the time and they dyed the river green, so I don't know what he's talking about.)
I said no-one as far as I knew, which turned out to be true; the postcard is postmarked Savannah but is from Hilton Head in South Carolina. Leigh, I adore you. It's a very pretty card and it's so good to see your handwriting. I'm planning to put all the postcards I have ever received (there are lots and lots off my LJ friends) on my noticeboard when term starts, just to remind me. I might even ask you all to send me some more, I don't know. It's just very nice. And I also plan to walk down to the shore - tomorrow, perhaps - and take some pictures looking out to sea.
Anyway, where was I? Progress with my busy, busy life continues apace; I have finished filling out forms, more or less, and as
jacinthsong has already observed, the most exciting of them is the application form for a Bod card (really, how many times more am I going to type out "Bodleian"? Not many, I fear). For this I need passport photos, and these were done last night with much chivvying along from my mother. The pictures are okay, byt due to a combination of tiredness and bad lighting, I look... white. Not just white as in pale, white as in like a white person. It's terribly disconcerting. I make a ridiculous-looking white person. Still, forms are mostly done, I have doctor's and dentist's appointments all over the place, and I have even had a long chat with Tony (and Mike, but I'm ignoring Mike).
So I am on schedule, and therefore I felt justified in going to visit Jane and Michael this afternoon. We had a very pleasant time chatting about nothing at all and watching QI. Two years ago, Jane was getting ready to go off to Warwick for the first time and asked me to come over, more or less to say goodbye. So I went, and we chatted and I made a now infamous remark she will never allow me to forget, and then I didn't see her for a long while. That month I started sixth form, and I'm now wondering where the time went. It's such a cliché, but where have the last two years got to?
It was a lovely day. The highlight was Michael throwing a Dime down back of the sofa, prompting Jane to go after it. After a moment her voice drifted up. "There's a hat down here! And a copy of Mill On The Floss! And a snake!"
It was a draught excluder snake, but I was amused. I eventually drifted home because my family would be starting to wonder where I was, and Jane gave me a passing-exam present - an anthology of Doctor Who short stories and the vol 3 DVD with The Doctor Dances on it (hee!) - and I'm happy. Also, in an example of synchronicity bordering on predestination,
gwynnega and
cedara both recommended I read Gaudy Night yesterday, and today I saw it lying on the stairs! Jane lent it to me with a promise I'd enjoy it. I plan to spend today and tomorrow just reading. No more forms.
Heh. This is all new and wonderful.
