Family, networks, and the Beatles in Rishikesh

[livejournal.com profile] cucharita and [livejournal.com profile] emerald_embers have both been discussing the future in various terms. I don't want to think about it, I really don't. Enid mentioned the "goth corner." I will never again have reason to say, "I'm alternative, me."

In other news... well, my family are very slowly driving me nuts. To start with, is it normal to be so aggravated by your own grandmother? I don't know what it is exactly that annoys me so much; perhaps the way she doesn't seem to believe I'm not five years old. If I choose to go out without a jacket, it's because I've looked at the weather and decided I don't need one. There is a method in my madness. But arguing is very difficult with a language barrier as inpenetrable as ours seems to be.

What else? Yes... the entire extended family are having problems. Two nights ago, Shivani was hit by a car. Note, I didn't say run over - she's so light that apparently the car hit her and she went airborne, flying straight off the road, thankfully. She had only flesh wounds and superficial injuries - Pedar says she was remarkably lucky, and he would have said a broken limb would be the best case scenario. She could have injured her spine and been paralysed, but she was lucky.

Life seems to have become a constant round of doom and gloom in this house. My parents are fighting on and off as well, and even Pedar and I have been somewhat pissed off with each other. He wants to get rid of the network, even now after I've got it working. My innovative piece of thinking was to position the wireless adapter outside my bedroom door, therefore blocking interfering radiation from the CPU, but for some reason this mortally offends him. I finally told him that if he wanted to get rid of it, he was doing it himself. I've spent too many hours of my life on the phone to BT openworld.

Have I now dealt with everything?
Apparently not. Yesterday, we (that is, my family and me) went to the Albert Dock and then went to McDonalds. McDonalds are, I believe, losing money at an astronomical rate and therefore trying to reinvent themselves. My mother wanted to try their tuna salad, but they didn't have it. I wanted to try what they call a frappé, but they were out of it. I then paid for a cheeseburger with a pound coin and asked for a penny change. They were out of pennies.

It would have been remarkably unsuccessful were it not for the fact they had some photos on the walls of the Beatles in Rishikesh. I found that quite amazing. I have been to Rishikesh (it's a small place by the River Ganges) but it's not the sort of place you'd expect to meet the Beatles. Anyway.

I really have finished with the ramble now. I may do some actual writing now. Or, I may tidy my room. Ah, procrastination. Anyway. The Fic From Hell (a new one, now) has just reached 13,000 words and I have a feeling I meant it to be a one-shot ficlet. It got away from me. As did the FQF entry. Might I add - am I the only person on my friends list who's actually written and submitted her FQF entry? Because I'm still tempted to do another one (no-one's claimed classic hurt/comfort) but it's a patently misguided idea, I can't do it before Auguest 31st, and you must all talk me out of it.

I wondered, so I went down to Formby Post Office to find out if they were holding any parcels, but they're not. It's strange.

Yes, grandmothers can drive you crazy. I think it's a given, over time and age. Mine, since I was diagnosed with epilepsy, prefers to think of me as a retarded teenager --- annoying since I'm well over thirty now. She keeps trying to do things like tie my shoes for me and feed me when she's around. She also pretends to be dotty when she isn't so that she'll get more attention.

At least your McDonalds has interesting things on the walls. No such luck with ours and they're always out of things. They ought to stick to burgers. I just about cringed when I saw that Burger King seemed to be breaking into the taco business.

My grandmother drives me completely batty. She's very, very, very critical of everything, and a lot of what I do is just too strange for her. Great Grandmother is worse, though, but I have to see her significantly less often.

McDonalds is into localisation in a big way. In Canada, we have a Lighter Choices menu with vegetarian food and so on, as well as Lobster Roll in the spring, and Poutine.

I'm now reaching the point where I'm planning to make a list of reasons why my grandmother annoys me, just to get it out of my system.

And you know, I've never tried lobster in any shape or form. Always wanted to...

Oh, it's gooOOoOoOooood.

Lists are very therapeutic.
