I did want to see some fallout from how Miles treats Elena, though, and how he manipulates everyone around him. Does that make sense? He doesn't treat people well, and there doesn't seem to be any acknowledgement in the narrative of that.
Yeah, that does make sense. vescoiya (the secret source of all my good ideas) had some thoughts about his experience of his disability possibly having contributed to his need to control the people and situations around him. I'm not sure I'm expressing it very well, though. It's an interesting idea.
As icepixie says, Miles does grow a lot in later books and have some of the arrogance (or surface bravado, more accurately) knocked out of him.
